Last Day At Pozee - Christmas Video

Well, today was Ethan's last day at Pozee Playzle. Unfortunately, his school closed due to financial issues, and he will begin going to his new school on Monday. One of the last things he did at Pozee was sing and dance at a Christmas show for parents. This show was done just before the school closed for the holidays.

Ethan struck it rich with the number of cool gifts he received this year. He received gifts from his Grandpa, Uncle Zack, Papaw & Grammie, Uncle Tom, Aunt Dee Dee & cousin Clay, cousin Kristin, Uncle Eddie, Aunt Carole & cousin Kaitlyn, Mommy & Daddy, Mommy's friend Danielle, our neighbors Les and Jacque, and of course from ol' Saint Nick himself.

The numerous gifts included, Tranformer (Optimus Prime) Christmas ornament; Tonka front loader truck; Lincoln Logs; new pair of shorts; Scooby Doo Computer Cool School game; Tranformer (Silverstreak) figurine; Wall-E movie; Computer Cool School; Spiderman book; Crayola Alphabet Activity Posters; Hot Wheels cars; Zingo board game; coloring book and crayons; Monopoly board game; Pepper Skins clothing; (2) I Spy books; (2) Transformer t-shirts; Sesame Street Medical Kit; Transformer (Optimus Prime & Megatron) figurines; Hess gas truck; 100th Anniversary Etch-A-Sketch and last but not least a 4-wheeler (something that I've always wanted but will probably never get!)

Thanksgiving Holiday Trip 2008

There were several "firsts" for Ethan on this trip up north to WV this past Thanksgiving. Including the first time putting on a snowsuit, first time sledding (which unfortunately, the first time down the slight slope ended in a face full of snow), first snowball fight with Papaw, first time making a snowman (okay, so maybe he didn't participate, but we'll pretend he did) and his first Christmas gift this season that he got to open.

On the last evening of our trip, we got a picture of him with his Papaw and Grammie, which I think he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with.

Ethan's Big Boy Bed

Ethan is very pleased with our latest purchase we got for him. He was outgrowing his toddler bed, so we felt it was time to move him up to his own "big boy bed". We have no trouble getting him into bed now, especially having the "Transformer" bedspread, that he picked out, on it. He gets right in. As you can see from the photos, he is very proud of it...

New Discoveries

Lately, I've encountered new discoveries with Ethan - a couple that actually surprised me. About a month and a half ago, I came to realize that Ethan can count to 10 in Spanish...not on my account I might add. He knows more than I do in that area. I had to actually look up the Spanish words for the numbers on the internet to see if he was correct! For all I know, he's probably speaking Spanish during those times that I can not understand a word he's saying.

Occasionally, I've been trying to teach him how to properly hold his scissors and I think he's gotten the hang of it.

Just last week, he brought home some paperwork from preschool with his name on it that he had traced himself. So this past weekend, I put him to the test. He did a very good job.

A Talking To...

Instead of watching fireworks on the 4th of July, we watched a rabbit eating grass in our yard. You can barely see the thing between Ethan and Richard. At one point, I can only guess that Richard was getting too close to the rabbit. So Ethan felt he had to do some explaining to his Daddy about not getting too close or the rabbit will scurry away.

Sly Little Devil

What was supposed to just be...watering the lawn...ended up being...Ethan having a blast getting all wet, while watering the lawn.

It started out with Ethan watching the sprinkler from a distance. Then he started inching closer, occasionally getting hit with the water. The next thing I know, I look back over and he's all wet, then soaked. At one point he started "protecting" himself with sticks, of all things. That didn't seem to work, so he used his hands. At least he seemed to have enjoyed himself.

"It's Potty Time" is the name of the book that I read to Ethan when he's on the same potty. The character in the book is a boy, obviously, which I've also named Ethan. I mentioned to Ethan that he should read to Woody. So he grabbed his book and started showing it to him.

With construction going forward on our house, we've taken Ethan out to the land on occasion so that he can see where he'll be living. He likes being out here because we have a lot of bugs, and other critters, running around. We even have some rabbits that have popped in and out of the bushes on occasion.

The early stages of possessiveness...

While giving Ethan a bath last evening, I asked him to give me one of his toys so that I could wash it off. He immediately grabbed them all and said "mize" (I would guess meaning "mine" in our every day language.) This new word replaces the other verbiage, he normally uses when I try to grab his toys, of "no".

Shopping Experience

Over the weekend we took Ethan to the grocery store, which is a pretty normal experience but this time was a little different. He had his own shopping cart. (I just hope these "role-playing" toys/experiences doesn't affect him later in life.) But anyway, imagine if you will, Ethan with his cart transporting his two favorite friends at the moment...Elmo and Old MacDonald's horse...looking around as he strolls down every aisle with an occasional run in to the back of Richard's heels because he wasn't paying attention to where he was going. And there you have it.

Easter Day 2007

The Easter Bunny left Ethan several items in his basket(s),

but the most prized gift was a small box of raisins. He noticed it first thing and insisted on eating them.

Even while looking at the cards he received from his Aunt Dee Dee and Uncle Tom & family, as well as one from Grammie and Papaw Tacy, he was still hanging onto those raisins. Of course, there is another member of the family that loves raisins, probably as much as Ethan does, and that's Kumiko. As you can tell, she tends to be by Ethan's side when he's eating them, waiting for one to drop.

Some other items he received were a couple of stuffed Easter Bunnies (no chocolate ones in this household yet...trying to keep him away from the addicting stuff as long as we can...of course, one of the bunnies smells like chocolate).

Some clothes, a Crayola "mud" soap kit for him to get dirty in the bathtub with, cookies, foam airplanes, a Sesame Street easter egg with a toy school bus inside, a puzzle to help him with his numbers and a $10 bill from Grammie and Papaw Tacy.

Easter Egg Hunt Adventure

Yesterday, we took Ethan to the Keystone United Methodist Church, which was having an Easter egg hunt at 11am. We got there about 10:45am expecting to hunt eggs shortly thereafter. Unbeknownst to us, they had planned to play games first (i.e. egg toss, sack race, water balloon toss, etc.). That normally isn't a problem, but when Ethan saw the eggs laying on the ground, he decided he wanted to go over there. So therefore, we had to get his mind off the eggs, which at times was a struggle. He got upset several times. Then it was finally time to hunt the eggs. The kids were let loose and poor Ethan grabbed two eggs, one in each hand, and just stood there. I guess he figured that's all he was entitled to. I tried to get him to drop them in his Easter basket (that he didn't want to carry) and gather some more, but he just wasn't interested. The other children were filling up their baskets fast and Ethan didn't have a one in his. I guess I was wanting Ethan to do everything himself in order to get "the photos", but it wasn't happening. So Richard decided to take over and moved the process along smoothly. When all the eggs were gathered up, we could trade in the eggs for a goodie bag. After we got the goodie bag, Ethan started helping them sort the eggs, by putting eggs from one container into the other. He did this for a few minutes and actually didn't want to leave when I pulled him away.

After he hunted eggs, they were offering lunch inside the church hall, but instead we decided to get Ethan's face painted. He was so cooperative when the girl started painting. We left after that.

Overall, he seemed to have enjoyed himself.

You would think for that amount of money, going to the park would be worth it, but I beg to differ. Everyone and their mother was at Lowry Park Zoo on Sunday, 21 January. We got there 1/2 hour after they opened and the parking lot was already full. Ethan enjoyed seeing the animals and I enjoyed watching him get all giddy and perform a "happy dance" when he got to play in the water that the stingrays were swimming in. Unfortunately, I was unable to capture the dance with the camera due to the crowd around him. He saw several animals at the zoo this time (his previous experience was sleeping through the majority of our visit), which I've shared some photos of them, but overall, the stingray exhibit was the one that created the most excitement for him. After fighting the crowd and dealing with Ethan's temper tantrums, we decided to leave after about 3 hours.

We have put up Ethan's kid-friendly Christmas tree this evening. Ethan knew exactly what to do with the ornaments but didn't know how to hang them around the buttons. He basically showed me where to put them. By the look on his face in the last photo, I think he's pretty pleased with the results!

Instead of taking a risk of Ethan breaking a limb or something worse by being a ghost (cheap way out of getting him a costume), I (or we I should say, since I had to get Richard's approval for the purchase) decided to bite the bullet and purchase him a costume for Halloween. Daycare is planning to have a party tomorrow for the children and I surely didn't want him to feel left out of being the only one not dolled up. If only the child would cooperate and keep his hat on long enough for us to take his picture - a decent one!

Tissues

Ketchup for the 1st time

Ethan has finally discovered ketchup. I know he's 18 months old, but I guess I don't want him to grow up too quickly. It's either that or I'm a little leary of him eating fattening foods (which normally come with ketchup) because I don't want him to be a little porker. He's even had french fries. Oh, the horror of it!! And not even the baked in the oven kind he gets at home - the real deal! I better get him on a weight management plan now.

We finally had another family photo taken of all three of us. The last one we had taken was a professional one done when Ethan was 6 months old. Ethan is a character! Richard and I were fortunate (or maybe unfortunate) enough to be woken up this morning at around 1am by the jibber-jabber of the little man. He followed the early morning "talk" with repeating "uh-oh" - one right after the other - for a couple of minutes. Richard made a comment that Ethan probably realized he was up way too early and that's why he was saying the phrase.

His new desk

The kid just can't have enough "toys". I wanted to purchase him a desk and chair so that he can sit down and practice his coloring techniques. Unfortunately, the new furniture has not found a proper home and the desk has already been "tested" with his big, fat crayons I also got for him. Luckily the crayons are washable. (The things they come up with nowadays!) He's already used the seat of one of our dining room chairs as a canvas. What have I got myself into?!?!? Oh, but to see how giddy he was when he first laid eyes on the paper and crayons I placed in his desk, it may just be worth it. So far, every day when we get home from daycare, he goes right over to his desk and starts coloring. Now if only I can muster enough courage to let him start finger painting! Oh brother! Of course, he might just be the next Picasso and you'll be able to see his work of art in a nearby gallery.

Ethan Tired?

Well, some days the little guy just gets a little tired. On those days he finds the nearest pillow and just lays down on it. This time around, however, he decided that Kumiko would serve as his pillow. Whether or not Kumiko enjoys this, or not, is hard to say. Perhaps she's thinking "geez kid, could you get off my back!" Then again, maybe she thinks it's a good way to hide from Saki, so she can jump her when Saki least expects it? In any case, Ethan clearly felt that Kumiko was a nice soft place to lay down. Of course, just when you least expect it...

My Family artwork

What can I say, the boy's got talent. However, I was a little confused when I first saw his artwork after picking him up this evening from daycare. But the more I look at it, I think I can almost picture Richard - the big blob in the middle of the page. Unfortunately, I just don't see myself in any of this. :) Okay, maybe we are all there including the dogs, but we'll never know.

Ethan's not feeling well

I had to pick him up early yesterday from daycare. They called and said he wasn't feeling well. He had thrown up a couple of times before I got there and said that if he wasn't sleeping then he was crying. He apparently caught some type of bug. He laid on the couch in his diaper the whole evening yesterday and today he was doing much of the same. He seems to be getting his strength back and is starting to play with his toys.

PreK1

It's official...Ethan is growing up. He started in his new classroom 3 August, which was actually the first day of school in Hillsborough County. Some of the goals for PreK1 are speaking 1-3 letter words, speaking Spanish, running, dancing, jumping (which I've already taught him how to do this a few weeks ago, unfortunately his feet don't leave the floor - he just bends his knees and moves up and down - but what can you say, he's only 17 months old!), connect beads, counting 1-5, shape recognition, and naming/recognizing his body parts (he knows where his nose, and mine, is and he definitely knows where his private part is but he just doesn't know the name of it). As you can see from the picture, he is ready to start his new day.

Kumiko, Ethan & Saki

On Wednesday, Ethan has to take a photo of his pets in to daycare. A little show n' tell during their "animal week". So I was lucky enough to get them all to pose together on the couch this evening for a little photo op. This was the best photo of the bunch, and even still it looks like Saki is a little hesitant to sit near him.

Mr. Smartie Pants

Ethan loves to turn the television off and on when we're trying to watch something. This evening was no exception. But this time, he had other plans. He wanted to watch Baby Einstein's "Neighborhood Animals". And how do you think we knew that? By him turning the DVD player on and then swiftly going to his rocker, sitting down and waiting until it appeared on the tube. He's very smart for his age (must've gotten it from his Mama). :) Gotta love him!

Hurricane Ethan

This was a torrential storm that even the weather people had no clue was coming into our path. It first set down on Monday, the 10th, and after much cleanup that evening, it showed it's furry again this evening. If only we would've had some warning!

First Word/First Phrase

Well, after many months of prodding and looking silly, we managed to get Ethan to pipe up for his first real word: dog! Yeah, ma and pa have been part of his vocabulary for many months, but this is the first word that he's come out and fully pronounced. Yesterday, while watching K-9's on cable, Ethan pointed to the TV and said "dog!" several times. Seems he really likes dogs, only slightly influenced, I think, by our two lovable dogs Saki and Kumiko.

Ethan decided to follow up his word with his first phrase: uhh-oh! Just the other day, after dropping his sippy cup, he uttered the phrase, in it's entirety, apparently intending to inform us of his predicament. This after months of him saying "Uhh!" followed by us saying "oh!" in some vein attempt to get him to piece the two words together. What word or phrase will he utter next? Stay tuned!

Morning (weekday) Routine

This is a scrapbook page I created Tuesday of Ethan's routine in the mornings. (click on the image to enlarge it). In case it's hard to read, it states:
5:45 - 6:00 a.m. get woke up by Mama
6:00 - 6:10 a.m. diaper changed and dressed for school
6:10 - 6:15 a.m. drink milk
6:15 - 6:25 a.m. read a book (repeat as necessary)
6:25 - 6:40 a.m. lay down until Mama's ready to leave
6:40 - 6:50 a.m. diaper changed again, teeth brushed and shoes put on
6:50 - 7:00 a.m. depart and arrive at school

Believe me, there are mornings (like today) when it really does take the full 15 minutes to get his butt out of bed. He must've gotten my genes in that department.

Ethan learns to suck from a straw

Ethan probably would've been drinking from a straw long before now if I would've given him the opportunity. But Saturday was the day and he learned the technique in no time. Of course, it helps to give him something as delicious and cold as a chocolate shake from Steak n' Shake to learn from. I wouldn't doubt it if it took him back to the "many" times that he tasted it while in the womb. Oh, the joys of a hot spring day in Florida!

Mowing The Lawn

Here we see Ethan mowing the lawn and pointing out that the tree needs some trimming. His astute eye for fauna and their proper care has not gone unnoticed. He correctly identifies flowers as "Ba...!", while pointing at them.

Do we have a future Lawn Care Technician in our midst? Or is this just a fad? Only time will tell.

Ethan Modeling Backpack

Here Ethan's playing with one of his favorite new toys: Alphabet Blocks! He really likes these blocks, playing with them quite often, and really appreciates the gift from Pam. Here he can be seen studying one of the blocks not long before he decided to give it the old taste test!

They were so good, he was determined to show us the wonders of the blocks he held. "Ba..!" I believe was the proper term he used.

Ethan's Life, the Blog, begins today. This is the first post to kick things off, and it will replace Ethan's old Road Runner site, which is limited to just 5MB of pictures. The goal with this site is to be able to more readily add content to his site for friends and family to keep up with the little guy. As you can see, this blog allows us to post his photos with greater ease than with the original site, which I had to update manually for numerous sections, and for the addition of photos.

The current look is one of the available templates. I will be working to change the look and feel to make it more in the style of our little buddy. Till then...

The Author ("Da..." as Ethan likes to say) is here, for the sake of adding a profile picture (grumbles!)!
